Maintaining the correct temperature is one of the most important factors for successful mushroom cultivation. An adhesive thermometer strip provides a simple, reliable and non-invasive way to continuously monitor the temperature of your grow kit: helping to create the ideal environment for healthy and consistent mushroom growth.
The benefits of tracking the grow kit temperature
Mushrooms grow the best within a certain temperature range of 23-27°C. Even slight fluctuations outside of this temperature range can instantly negatively affect the mushroom growth and mushroom quality – being severely outside this range can lead to no mushroom growth at all. To ensure a great mushroom yield is through knowing the exact temperature of your grow kit.
This thermometer strip is designed to be placed directly on the outside of the grow kit and gives an instant visual reading of the internal temperature without the need to open the container or disturb the growing conditions. This is important as unnecessary handling with the grow kit can increase the risks of contaminations.
It’s practical as it does not need any electricity which means no batteries in need of being replaced and it takes no extra space. Simply peel and stick the thermometer strip onto the grow kit and it will continuously display the temperature through color-changing indicators. This makes it a hassle-free way of measuring the temperature.
Comment l'utiliser
Attach the thermometer strip directly onto your grow kit at the same level as the substrate.
On a grow box, attach it on the side of the kit and make sure it won’t be submerged in the water.
On a sac de culture, attach it on the side somewhere in between the middle to the lower part of the bag.
The thermometer strip will instantaneously show you the temperature of your grow kit within a temperature range of 18-34°C. It cannot show degrees below 18°C and over 34°C.
- If it shows a temperature of 18°C, make sure to place your kit in a warmer environment ou increase the heat on your heat mat
- If it shows a temperature of 34°C, make sure to place your kit in a colder environment ou decrease the heat on your heat mat, or turn it off completely.
Grow kits in a too warm environment
If grow kits are placed in too hot environments, it will severely dry out the substrate and kill the mycelium. No mycelium = no mushrooms.
A dried out substrate can be noticed with the sides of the cake retracting from the sides of the grow box. If this happens, it needs to be re-soaked for 12-24 hours depending on the size of your grow kit. Then make sure to place your grow kit in a cooler environment.
Grow kits in a too cold environment
If a grow kit is placed in too cold environments, the growth of the mycelium slows down which in turn slows down the growth of mushrooms. At temperatures below 10°C, the mycelium becomes dormant until it reaches higher temperatures again.
If you’ve placed your grow kit too cold, it will postpone the mushroom growth – put it somewhere warmer and wait for the mycelium to start growing again.
