Troubleshooting & Product Support

Sometimes a product may look or behave differently than expected. Changes in appearance, growth, moisture, colour, texture or storage condition do not always mean there is a problem. Understanding what is normal and knowing when action is needed can help prevent unnecessary handling and resolve many common issues quickly.

This guide covers common questions and problems related to Magic Mushroom Grow Kits, Ready-to-Grow Bags, magic truffles, microdosing products and liquid cultures. Use the troubleshooting tool above for step-by-step guidance tailored to your situation, or read more below about the most common issues.

Magic Mushroom Grow Kit Problems

A Magic Mushroom Grow Kit contains an already colonised substrate. During activation and fruiting, the appearance of the substrate and mycelium can change considerably. Temperature, humidity, fresh air and other environmental conditions can also influence how quickly mushrooms develop.

Common questions include slow growth, no pins, excess moisture, a dry substrate, unusual colours, side pins and possible contamination. A slower start or a change in appearance does not automatically mean that something is wrong with the grow kit.

Ready-to-Grow Bag Problems

Our Ready-to-Grow Bags are supplied pre-colonised and do not require the same activation process as a traditional grow kit. The mycelium has already developed throughout the substrate before fruiting begins.

Changes in moisture, mycelium density and substrate appearance can occur during this stage. If development seems slow, check the conditions first and avoid unnecessarily opening, removing or disturbing the substrate.

Contamination or Normal Mycelium Growth?

One of the most common concerns is whether a grow kit or grow bag has become contaminated. Healthy mycelium is generally white to off-white and may appear thin and web-like or thick and fluffy. Blue or blue-grey areas can sometimes be caused by bruising rather than contamination.

Strong green discolouration, unusual dark growth or rapidly spreading changes may require closer inspection. Appearance alone, however, is not always enough to determine whether contamination is present.

If you are unsure, avoid unnecessarily touching or removing the substrate. Follow the troubleshooting steps above and provide clear photos of the top and sides when our customer service team needs to assess the product.

Magic Truffle Storage, Appearance and Packaging

Magic truffles are a fresh product, making correct storage particularly important. Their colour, texture and appearance can change over time without necessarily indicating spoilage, while temperature, damaged vacuum packaging and extended storage can affect their condition.

The troubleshooting tool can help with questions about storage, shelf life, vacuum packaging, colour, texture, smell and other changes in appearance.

Microdosing Storage and Packaging

Microdosing products should be stored according to the instructions supplied with the product. Temperature, moisture, storage time and damaged packaging can all affect their condition.

If a sachet looks different than expected or the packaging is no longer properly sealed, use the troubleshooting tool above to determine the appropriate next step.

Liquid Culture Problems

Liquid culture contains living mycelium suspended in a nutrient solution, so its appearance naturally changes as the culture develops. Healthy mycelium can appear as white strands, clouds or small clusters suspended throughout the liquid.

Common questions involve cloudiness, sediment, mycelium development, storage and unusual changes in appearance. Not every visible change indicates a problem, and contamination cannot always be identified from appearance alone.

When Should You Contact Mondo Growkits?

Many common questions can be resolved through the troubleshooting tool. If your answers indicate possible contamination, damage or another problem that requires further assessment, you will be directed to our customer service team.

Providing clear photos and accurate information helps us assess your situation more quickly. For grow kits and grow bags, photos of both the top and sides of the substrate are particularly useful.
