Liquid Culture Syringe Instructions
How to get started with a Liquid Culture Syringe
This guide provides clear step-by-step instructions for correctly using a
liquid culture syringe for substrate inoculation. It covers the essential preparation, inspection and injection steps needed for a clean and successful inoculation process.
You’ll find practical guidance on sterile working conditions, syringe preparation and proper injection techniques to help reduce the risk of contamination and support healthy mycelium development.
Follow each step carefully and work as cleanly as possible to promote consistent, reliable colonization of the substrate.

Liquid Culture Syringe
Description
A syringe containing 20 ml of liquid nutrients and active mycelium, suitable for direct inoculation into substrates.
Components included
20 ml Liquid Culture Syringe
Filled with premium selected mycelium in liquid nutrients.
Sterile needle
Included for attaching to the syringe before inoculation.
Alcohol swabs
Included for disinfecting the syringe tip, needle and injection port.
Preparation and inspection
Before using the liquid culture syringe, inspect it carefully.
Inspect the liquid culture
Check that the liquid is clear and contains visible mycelium.
Look carefully for unusual discoloration or other visible signs that may indicate contamination.
Prepare your materials
Have the liquid culture syringe, sterile needle, alcohol swabs and chosen substrate ready before you begin.
Prepare and disinfect the syringe
- Remove the protective cap from the syringe.
- Disinfect the syringe tip using an alcohol swab.
- Carefully remove the sterile needle from its packaging.
- Securely attach the needle to the syringe.
- Disinfect the needle before continuing.
Disinfect the substrate injection port
Thoroughly disinfect the injection port of the chosen substrate before inserting the needle.
Make sure the injection area is clean before proceeding.
Inject the Liquid Culture into the substrate
Gently shake the liquid culture syringe to evenly distribute the mycelium.
Insert the needle through the injection port and inject the full contents of the 20 ml syringe into the grow box or grow bag.
Distribute the Liquid Culture
After injection, distribute the liquid culture as evenly as possible throughout the substrate.
Grow box
Tilt the grow box sideways and gently move it up and down to distribute the liquid culture throughout the substrate.
Grow bag
Gently massage the grow bag to distribute the liquid culture throughout the substrate.
