Blue Magnolia (Psilocybe cubensis) Strain
Blue Magnolia is a Psilocybe cubensis hybrid known for its pronounced blue bruising and broad, rounded caps with a distinctive tone. It is a relatively recent strain, generally thought to come from the southern United States, which is where the “magnolia” in the name points to. Mondo offers it as a liquid culture and as a spore swab.
Where does Blue Magnolia come from?
Blue Magnolia is generally said to originate in the southern United States, but its breeding history is not documented in detail. Treat any precise origin story you read online with caution. There are also related lines sold under similar names, such as Blue Magnolia Rust, which are separate selections.

How does Blue Magnolia grow?
Blue Magnolia grows like other Psilocybe cubensis strains. Mondo describes its mycelium as dense and healthy, colonizing evenly across different substrates. For growers who inoculate their own sterilised substrate, the liquid culture is the practical route, because it skips the germination stage of spores.
After inoculation, keep the substrate dark at a stable temperature while it colonizes, as described in our liquid culture syringe guide. Once fully colonized, it needs the usual fruiting conditions: 23 to 25 °C, bright indirect light, high humidity and brief air exchange once pins appear.

Why does Blue Magnolia bruise so strongly?
Blue Magnolia bruises strongly because of the same enzyme reaction that turns all psilocybin mushrooms blue when damaged; in this strain it is simply very visible. It is normal and not a sign of contamination. Our contamination guide shows how to tell bruising from mold.
Liquid culture or spore swab?
Choose the liquid culture if you want to grow with predictable results; it contains a selected, living culture. Choose the spore swab if you want to study the genetics under a microscope or select your own cultures on agar. Our comparison of liquid culture vs spore syringe explains the trade-offs.
Check local rules
Cultivating psilocybin mushrooms is not legal everywhere. Check the law in your country before ordering or using cultures.
